Nervous Twitch – ‘Somebody Else’/’Tarantino Hangover’ Review

09/09/2014 by Tom Roden

After a string of singles and EPs, ‘Somebody Else’/’Tarantino Hangover’ is the sixth release to come from Leeds band Nervous Twitch. Creating their own unique punk rock sound, infusing 60’s pop melodies and inspiration from the likes of The Ramones, ‘Somebody Else’ was released on September 1. Keeping the production levels nice and simple seems to be working in their favour, especially with this new single. With all the over produced, auto-tuned material that’s currently about, it makes it all the […]

Dirty Money Album Launch @ Sugarmill, Stoke

08/09/2014 by Tom Roden

Live billings are a very tricky thing. You don’t want to have everybody in a very close-fitting genre, because it runs the risk of feeling like you’re at a Status Quo gig and everything melding into one cohesive sound. At the same time, you don’t want too much variation because it can confuse an audience. It’s tricky business. Dirty Money No. 5’s album launch show at The Sugarmill in Stoke (Saturday September 6 2014) played it risky in this regard. […]

The Sunday Reeds – ‘Rock N Roll Fantasy’ Review

18/07/2014 by Tom Roden

We’ve spoke about The Sunday Reeds and their brand of hazy grunge before, and in the run up to their ‘Amour Tragique’ EP they’ve brought some more hazy riffs our way with ‘Rock N Roll Fantasy’. It’s the next track to feature off their EP, and it’s set for release on August 1 by digital download. But how does it stack up to ‘Jean-Luc’? Very well, apparently. The track has been heralded as the highlight of the EP, and it’s […]

Lymelight Festival 2014: Day Two Report

05/05/2014 by Tom Roden

After ending on a high note last night, Lymelight Festival plodded to a start with the disappointing folk sounds of Rain. Things picked up slightly with Holly Pender, whose gentle acoustic sound gathered the first audience of the day and made up for the less-than-satisfying start to the day. Covers band Baxter got the crowd ready for the first band of the day, The BlueYellows, whose breezy pop songs were characterised by simple piano sections and wah-heavy guitar. They went down well, and signalled […]
