Video: Jekyll – ‘The Wounds We’ve Ignored’

16/03/2015 by Tom Roden

Jekyll are back with a new track, the dark and brooding ‘The Wounds We’ve Ignored’. It’s packed full of the usual Jekyll power and driving energy, and the video follows the trend that they set out in last video ‘I Do What I Can’. It’s a video that cuts between performance and a story that fits to the lyrics in the type of strange dark way that Jekyll seem to be favouring in their videos. You can watch the video […]

Video: Jekyll Live (Where’s Mavis? 2014)

06/09/2014 by Tom Roden

We’ve obssessed about Jekyll every time some of their material comes our way, seizing the opportunity to cover what we believe to be a fantastic alt-rock outfit. And to reinforce these beliefs, Jekyll have just won the Where’s Mavis? Battle Of The Bands competition 2014 in Preston. And even better than that, the band have made their competition winning set available – in full – on their Youtube channel! Every second of their intense performance has been captured, and you […]

Video: Jekyll – ‘I Do What I Can’

07/07/2014 by Tom Roden

We’ve raved massively about Jekyll since this track and their EP came out, so it was only a matter of time until we covered this video. Jekyll unveiled the video to ‘I Do What I Can’ not too long ago, and it’s a great video for a great song. It’s an unassuming one: it begins rather plainly, with shots of the band and a restrained performance video. But it’s cut with some great weird visual effects that grab your interest […]

Jekyll – ‘Jekyll’ EP Review

26/06/2014 by Tom Roden

Jekyll’s self-titled EP is a powerful work of alt-rock, coated in the angst of grunge without sounding dated. It’s a pretty impressive release, and one that any alt-rock fan will enjoy. The EP’s opening is brilliant. First track ‘I Do What I Can’ has an explosive start, giving the feeling that the EP would have broke free of the pause button regardless of whether you hit play or not. And the track itself is massive, a huge uplifting piece that really gets […]

Jekyll – ‘I Do What I Can’ Review

17/06/2014 by Tom Roden

From the hit of the start button, ‘I Do What I Can’ comes straight in with muscular guitar riffs and a clear bass line. There’s no slow build, you’re just dropped straight into the song’s hook. Combining heavy beats with reverb-coated guitars, this song is very alt-rock. It simultaneously channels the rock edge of early Biffy Clyro and the melodic melancholy of Meat Is Murder-era Smiths, making for a hugely enjoyable track. Alongside this, with have a vocal style that is […]
