Kobadelta – ‘Remain Distracted’ EP Review

23/08/2014 by Tom Roden

Desert-Rock has never sounded as seductive as Kobadelta’s new EP, ‘Remain Distracted’. It exists in a strange but impressive world between Queens Of The Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys, combining coolly-delivered vocals with searing guitars and brutal drumming. If Arctic Monkeys are “a heavy metal band disguised as an indie band“, then Kobadelta are definitely in the same boat. Opening track ‘Siam’ sets the scene well, beginning with a hypnotising guitar line that soon erupts into the volcanic mass of […]

Video: Fé – ’50/50′

28/07/2014 by Tom Roden

Some bass-heavy alt-rock from Fé in the form of ’50/50′ today. It’s a great track with a simple vocal sample hook that gets in your head, alongside some intense bass and a nice vocal melody. The video sees the band singing alone in a desert, which is quite pretty and adds to the ‘almost but not quite’ Queens Of The Stone Age aspect of the band’s sound. But all we really, in all honesty, take from the video is that […]

Deja Vega – ‘Sleep’ Review

01/07/2014 by Tom Roden

Their drums hit hard and their songs hit harder: Deja Vega’s first batch of recorded material is sounding great, and ‘Sleep’ is the best demonstration of their desert-rock sound. From the brutal unforgiving drum opening and call-to-arms vocals to the energetic guitar centrepiece, this is a raw piece of primal energy in every sense. It’s a song that is easy to slot into the back catalogue of rock goliaths like Queens Of The Stone Age, and with good reason. The guitars […]

Introducing…Club Smith

14/12/2012 by Tom Roden

There is something familiar yet unique about Club Smith. The band produce a fantastic blend of Indie and Alternative-Rock in a format that very few other bands are even attempting to try right now. The band’s sound is something of a blend between Franz Ferdinand, Queens Of The Stone Age with elements of The Temper Trap and Bloc Party. In short, it’s simultaneously harmoniously peaceful and explosively energetic. The above is enough reason for the band to stand out, but […]
