Curb – ‘Communication’ Review

25/09/2014 by Tom Roden

Where there is shoegaze, there is endless opportunities for a band to create a dreamy haze of swirly whirly (technical term) guitars that stretch beyond the usual pop boundaries of 3-4 minutes. Curb have created their own dreamhaze sonicscape with ‘Communication’, but how does it compare to the fantastic ‘So High’? The two tracks are almost incomparable, both showing two completely different sides to the band. While both have the same irresistable bass line and shoegaze sound, the funky elements […]

Video: Violet Skies – ‘Patience’ (Glastonbury 2014)

03/07/2014 by Tom Roden

One of the finest vocals we’ve found from Glastonbury so far comes from the phenomenal Violet Skies, an artist who has been sadly overlooked in a lot of the reflective coverage of Glastonbury 2014. ‘Patience’ showcases the great voice on offer from the act, accompanied by a beat that compliments the vocals while it builds throughout the song into something that will definitely get you moving. But let’s not focus too much on the music – the performance itself is […]

Video: Nick Mulvey – ‘Fever To The Form’ (Glastonbury 2014)

02/07/2014 by Tom Roden

While at Glastonbury, Nick Mulvey found some time between opening the Pyramid Stage on Saturday and checking out the rest of the festival to play a nice little acoustic track for the BBC, backstage in the BBC Music Teepee. This acoustic track, ‘Fever To The Form’, sounds absolutely beautiful and is one of the sweetest listens we’ve found from Glastonbury 2014 so far! It’d be a shame if anybody were to miss hearing it – so to avoid that shame, […]

Video: Carnabells – ‘Turn To Gold’ (Glastonbury 2014)

01/07/2014 by Tom Roden

Carnabells brought a lot of energy and passion to their set at Glastonbury, but it’s definitely new track ‘Turn To Gold’ that steals the spotlight. It’s a classic piece of indie-rock, and fans of The Coral will not be disappointed. It’s high-octane and it’s definitely a great introduction to the band. And it’s blatantly obvious that, beyond the nerves that are taking hold during the conversation with the audience, the band have a great stage presence and are able to […]

Video: Kagoule – ‘Glue’ (Glastonbury 2014)

30/06/2014 by Tom Roden

Kagoule gave a rousing performance of ‘Glue’ at Glastonbury last weekend, blending a feeling of detached tranquility with a muscular energy that was almost Nirvana-like in its volatility. And that chorus hook is straight out of the Graham Coxon book of guitar riffery, circa 1992’s ‘Modern Life Is Rubbish’. It begins unassumingly, but it grows to something with so much potential that it’s sad that Kagoule didn’t exploit this energy further. Hopefully Kagoule will make a return to Worthy Farm […]

It’s the perfect gig environment – a mix of cocktails, music and a venue atmosphere that is a nice mix of classy and informal. Moats – ‘Snakepit’ Review

26/03/2014 by Tom Roden

There’s something heartwarming and refreshing about listening to a track where as much effort has gone into crafting the lyrics as went into composing the music. And in Moats’ new track, ‘Snakepit’, this is exactly how it feels. Brooding guitars, a sinister bassline and a primal drumbeat form the backdrop for ‘Snakepit’ – showcasing a darker side to the band’s sound. Fans of Moat’s other soundcloud tracks (notably ‘Absorb’ and ‘Toothache’) will be well acquainted with the dramatic sounding guitars […]
