Drakelow – ‘Sleeping In The Photograph’ Review

03/03/2015 by Tom Roden

Expectancy is a very strange thing, and it causes some very unusual effects when you go into a track with some sense of what to expect. Take Drakelow for example. I always, since their days performing as Young Runaways, have expected big and great things from them and their tracks. Riskily, I went into listening to their new track ‘Sleeping In The Photograph’ with high expectations. And because of this, a very unusual thing has happened: I’ve been confusingly blown […]

Video: Drakelow – ‘Amber’

13/06/2014 by Tom Roden

Beautiful gentle guitars form the framework for an emotional vocal in Drakelow’s ‘Amber’, and the music video compliments the track perfectly with its understated artistry and natural landscape cuts. And to make it even better, it has floaty title text towards the beginning. Let your inner 21st-century teen eat its heart out, and watch the video below.

Drakelow – ‘String’/’Grace Cathedral Park’ Review

28/03/2014 by Tom Roden

Midlands-based Drakelow are a band that we’ve hyped up before. Formerly known as The Young Runaways, the band are back now with a double A side charity single for Record Store Day. The two tracks are streaming over on the band’s Soundcloud. So here’s our verdict. The first of the two A sides is an original track, ‘String’. The track opens in a tense fashion, with just a quiet guitar and the occasional burst of a louder electric guitar to […]

Picks Of The Week 6

02/12/2012 by Tom Roden

This week has been a little bit of this and a little bit of that, and I like to think the music reflects that. This week we have a couple of previously selected musicians returning to the feature, alongside other musicians that took a lot of digging to find. So after a good week of searching the darkest corners of the internet, I give you this week’s picks of the week: 1. Michael Rocket – The Pictish Trail Genre: Folk-Rock; […]

Introducing…Young Runaways

02/11/2012 by Tom Roden

Hailing from the west midlands, the Young Runaways expertly blend happiness and melancholy into accessible radio-friendly tracks that draw you in and will get you dancing. And with such talent, energy and a timeless sound, they are destined for great things. The interesting thing about the band is that they are a six-piece: which means that they have their own mini-orchestra. This not only adds some great harmonies and layers to their sound, but it also allows them to stand […]
