Hailing from the west midlands, the Young Runaways expertly blend happiness and melancholy into accessible radio-friendly tracks that draw you in and will get you dancing. And with such talent, energy and a timeless sound, they are destined for great things.
The interesting thing about the band is that they are a six-piece: which means that they have their own mini-orchestra. This not only adds some great harmonies and layers to their sound, but it also allows them to stand out from many other new bands and puts them in good stead for the future. With a rise in popularity of folk-rock with Mumford & Sons, Stornoway (who, coincidentally, the band have supported) and Of Monsters And Men to name a few, it’s only a matter of time until the band break into the mainstream.
They are a band with a wide range of influences, ranging from Fleetwood Mac to The Beatles to At The Drive-In, and this is evident in their style and onstage performance. They are a band that borrow from the past in order to give to the future; a band that wear their influences on their sleeves yet sit comfortably in their own unique sound.
To date the band have released one EP, entitled ‘There Is A World Outside’. They are currently working on new material which will hopefully be available at some point next year. But for now, enjoy their song ‘Closer’ from their début EP: a spectacular track that shows the band at their best. Also, it was used in a Peugeot advert!
