A bittersweet slap of almost bratty pop power.

Sophie and the Bom Boms are back with the bittersweet pop poundings of new single Appetite.

After the pop wonder that was previous single Big Girls, it seems that the band are set on proving that on one hand they’re not one-hit wonders, and on the other hand that they’re not all about uplifting pop numbers. Then again, sometimes nothing feels quite as good as delivering a song doused in bitterness. And, as bitter songs go, the declaration of “I lost my appetite for ya” is pretty up there.

It doesn’t quite pack the same punch as Big Girls, but Appetite definitely demonstrates a different musical capacity for the outfit – without abandoning the pop prowess. As a result it feels a bit bratpop, but still enjoyable.
