We never make much secret of our love of Benin City, and while we wait for them to finish up on their album they’ve been nice enough to make public a short collaborative demo to keep everyone interested.
‘Stay Positive’ is a short demo (under two minutes long) that is a collaboration with “one of [their] new fave bands” Black Polygons, who provide the instrumentation. And it works very well, in a style very typical of Benin City – the synth line rings with a melancholic chill, while the verse is all about finding the gleam of hope and positivity in the humdrum of life.
It’s not something that will add a whole new layer of depth or sound to what we expect from the band, but it’s not meant to. It’s a free download and a tasty appetite-whetting treat for us to happily consume until the album drops.
