Alt-Indie outfit lets loose on new single.
If you’ve listened to Marsicans before, you’ll have a fairly good idea of the sound that defines them: it’s one of indie-alternative energy, but constrained by pop-shaped form and structure. The band has thrown out this structure on new single Throw Ourselves In, a song that embraces the chaotic nature of alt-rock.
It’s important to note that this doesn’t mean the band is going down a darker, grungier path that leads to noise. The single keeps the band’s trademark solid sense of melody, both vocally and musically, and supplements it with liberating structures.
The chorus is the best example of this, with the vocals and instrumentation, feeling slightly at odds with one another yet still sounding right. It makes for a power punch of alternative energy that stands out among the flacid, run-of-the-mill sounds of the current indie scene.
