Secret Weapons trade out pop hits for pop hymn.
Secret Weapons is easily one of indie-pop’s future stars. The band has been showcasing its flair for pop songs with chart-dominating potential for a long time now, but latest single Comeback Season is the outfit’s first offering to change the flavour a bit. And it works marvellously.
Instead of going all out for another pop hit, this track feels more like a singalong hymn designed to inspire listeners and provide a lighter-in-the-air moment rather than an outright hit. The track is coated in the radio-friendly pop style that comes naturally to the band, but the lyrical subject about overcoming the odds is one that connects on a more emotional level than anything else the band has yet offered up.
With an album in the pipeline for later this year, the only way is up.
