Latest track from Levels uses industrial sounds and fluctuating tempos brilliantly.
Metalcore is a genre that tends to thrive in an atmosphere of anguished emotion and chaotic sounds, so being able to make it sound even more apocalyptic is no easy task. Though you wouldn’t think it was so challenging if you listened to Levels, whose new single Slip is arguably the most doom-laden the genre has sounded in a long time.
Opening with melodic metal tones crossed with industrial clangs, the track sets out to be distinctly haunting from the start. Every instrumental strike in the first twenty seconds is unlike anything else you’ll tend to hear in the scene at the moment, creating an end-of-days sense of dread that no other artist possibly could. While the instrumentation and lyrics that follows isn’t as groundbreaking, the use of erratic pacing is more than enough to keep listeners on edge.
