Electronic-pop outfit take it slow on new single.
It’s been a long time since we heard anything from Sophie and the Bom Boms. The duo had originally set the objective of dropping a new track every month of 2016, but plans seemed to change after they released Where Do We Go in April.
In that time, it seems things have settled down for the band but the talent is still there. Taken from their upcoming EP, new single Morning Sick trades in the typical upbeat bratpop rhythms for something more fragile and ballad-like. This is a slow-burning love song that is worlds apart from what we have heard previously, demonstrating the beauty and power of Sophie’s vocals wonderfully.
Though with that said, it’s not a straightforward and boring affair – Sophie’s rap game is surprisingly pretty strong – and it feels like a new chapter opening for the band. For any other artist, this may have been a rather unremarkable experience, but the way it stands so firmly at odds with the previous four singles is fascinating. Whatever the band have in store for their EP, this bold move confirms one thing: it will be unexpected.
