Bom bom in a new direction

Bratpoppers push the boat into electro-funkier waters.

It was only a matter of time until pop heroine Sophie and the Bom Boms‘ monthly release was a little bit out of the ordinary. Up until this point, 2016 has seen the artist establish herself as a fierce competitor in the bratpop genre. But new single Where Do We GO changes all that.

An experiment in electro-funk, the track is characterised by brass-esque lead melodies which divert attention away from the fact that – ultimately – the song is deeply influenced by Daft Punk. The soundscapes feel like a diluted version of the duo, all with an 80s twang and a distinctive experimental quality. It’s the moment we’ve secretly been hoping for: the moment Sophie and the Bom Boms move away from the comfort zone of bratpop and embrace something a bit different. Different it certainly is, but gorgeous all the same.
