A handsome track from Handsome Family.

 

It’s a rare occasion that you find a track that’s cozy, unpretentious, soaring and just plain lovely, but when you discover it you won’t be able to stop playing it. Thankfully, that what the Handsome Family have delivered with their new track Gold.

Everything just melds together so well. The ‘Old Cuyahoga’ like country-rock backing, the Stephen Merritt by way of Michael Stipe vocals, the warm, rich production – for some reason it just works. It may sound middle of the road, it may teeter on dad-rock, it might not be ‘cool’. I don’t care. It’s great.
