It’s not Rock ‘n’ Roll, yet it almost is, but I like it.
It’s been a little while since we last heard from alt-rockers Exowaves, but they’ve just come storming back with their brand new single (and accompanying video) It’s No Fun.
This time around, the band are really hitting it hard with what feels strangely like a mix of Kasabian, Miles Kane and Oasis (well, Liam Gallagher anyway) all dialled up beyond 11. Rumbling rhythms and climactic guitars set a typically rock mood, but the vocals curve more into the tonality of indie. Interestingly it manages to balance the two without sounding like a shambles, leading to a song which comes across like a more intense version of Oasis’ Bring it on Down.
Exowaves defy the rock ‘n’ roll convention while also sticking closely to it. It’s a fascinating blend that bodes well for the band’s future releases.
