Indie-rockers embrace Reggae to further transform their sound.
It takes a hell of a lot of guts for a band to change the sound that they have spent years establishing. Then again, The Assist are nothing if not absolutely courageous. If previous single Love was a step in a new direction, new single Nyabinghi is a leap of faith in yet another.
The cinematics of Love are gone and the indie-rock of old has melted away with only trace elements remaining. In its place, Nyabinghi offers a deliriously addictive blend of indie, reggae and shoegaze. It sounds strange, and it is – coming across like a pot-fuelled jam session between Arctic Monkeys, Tame Impala, The Streets and The Christians. Crazy good stuff.
The Assist keep taking steps in new and unexpected directions, and each one is right.
