A beautiful RnB collab of tender brilliance.
Tender melodies and electronically-altered RnB have never sounded as good as they do on Open Arms, the latest single from RKCB and Demo Taped.
Open Arms is a song that is really hard to predict, consisting so heavily of varying soundscapes that it feels like it could veer off in any direction at any time. On one hand it’s heavily embedded with a RnB sound, but on the other it could spin into electronic or pick up in funk at various points on the journey. Given the early days Kanye feel of the intro too, it wouldn’t even be too far a stretch for somebody to drop a rap verse at some stage.
Yet despite this unpredictability, the single is coherent and thoroughly enjoyable. There’s something addictively engaging about this uncertain sound, which keeps you fully immersed in the song as RKCB delivers velvet smooth vocal lines seductively into your ears. The collaboration works perfectly, so we hope the two unite in the future to drop more killer tracks.
