When an artist describes a song as being about “not letting doubts get in your head”, it goes without saying that it is set to be rousing and inspirational. Even so, DROELOE and Nevve‘s latest collab, Backbone, is a strong statement that’ll resonate positively with many of us.

With a singalong refrain of “better growing a fucking backbone”, this isn’t an inspirational song like you’ll find in a movie. This is a grittier, more determined alternative with lyrics that serve more like a slap in the face than a pick-me-up. Nevertheless, it’s a call to arms for anybody with doubts and it’s backed by Nevve’s silky vocals and DROELOE’s stunning production – a match made in heaven.
