October’s Child drops its debut alt-pop single and it’s a mesmerising, haunting offering.
Alt-pop is one of those strange genres that, despite numerous notable successes, is bizarrely undersaturated. Artists like Lorde and Lana Del Rey have done a great deal to showcase the popular appeal and artistic integrity that can be so well balanced in the genre, but few acts have truly embraced the style.
October’s Child might be about to change that for the better. The duo has just dropped its debut single Orion, a haunting alt-pop gem that combines ethereal vocals with a ghostlike lead electronic melody that creates a moody sense of introspection.
It’s an interesting first offering since it feels so distinct in its stylings, striking a unique balance between being intricately textured and overtly minimalistic. It’ll be interesting to see how October’s Child progresses from here.
