Listen// The guitar is back in town

Michael Jablonka drops the tastiest new guitar riff of 2017.

Even despite an endless number of alt-rock and garage-rock bands emerging every year, you’ll be hard pressed to find a guitar riff that is really interesting. It seems that powerful, catchy guitar lines were done to death between the 60s and 90s, so we’re left with an ever-dwindling amount.

Fortunately, Michael Jablonka is a ray of hope in a dark abyss of forgettable guitar riffs. His second single, I Found You, holds a beauty of a guitar riff that takes up residence in your skull and delivers a spark to your soul. It’s full of a rootsy-garage-rock swagger that oozes confidence and expertise.

It’s even more impressive when you consider that I Found You was one of the first tunes the Londoner wrote as a solo artist, although it took a while to manifest. “I had writer’s block,” explains Jablonka, “and a chorus with nothing much else. I imagined the verses to be a constant build up and wanted the chorus to be that break-free moment”.
