The Shanks’ new video channels mysticism via the 80s.

Canadian two-piece The Shanks have just dropped the video for their track Do You Fear Me? from the upcoming album Prisons of Ecstasy, and by God is it a bizarre collection of visual references. Ancient Asian mystics, star charts, da Messina’s ‘St. Jerome in his study’ and a Soft Cell-esque Star-being on an equally galactic drum kit.

Production wise, it’s like something you would have found on MTV2 back in the day – whether that’s a positive or a negative comes down to you. Despite that, it’s an unpretentious, engaging visual treat that should keep you engaged, despite not fitting at all with the track. If you’re a fan of John Grant this should be right up your alley – both video and music.

Prisons of Ecstasy will be released in September via. Here to Everywhere Records.
