Indie singalong with the right dose of folk influence.

 

Indie-rock outfit Etches have just released their latest single, the joyous singalong Love Is.

Characterised by a cascading stream of guitars, Love Is captures a beautiful melody and delivers it with a vocal begging for call-and-response. In a way, I want to dislike the track: the vocals are so indebted to indie-folk that it makes me raise an eyebrow in suspicious apprehension. But overlooking this presents me with a glorious single that is as infectious as it is melodic, with a minimalistic arrangement punctuated by guitars drenched in waves of delay.

Etches hit all the right notes, both instrumentally and vocally.
