Every once in a while, we get delivered a track that completely blows us away. Little Lapin’s latest release ‘Remember The Highs’ is one such track; a smoothly soothing track that loans itself to opening a stadium set.
There’s a beautifully melancholic section of indie guitars that run through the track, with consistent drums and a rise-then-fall structure. It’s nothing out of the ordinary for a modern indie track in that respect, but there’s a little more to it than just a solid musical base.
It has a strong sense of melody, and this melody all originates in the smokey cool vocals. Little Lapin possesses a gorgeous voice, that shines with a laid-back fragility – jazz-club smoothness with whiffs of blues-joint emotion. And on ‘Remember The Highs’, it turns an indie-pop formula into something more.
It becomes an indie gem voiced by Karen O, Anna Calvi and Chrissie Hynde all at once. It becomes a triumph for Little Lapin, and for the emerging indie scene in general. And, hopefully, there are many more to come.
