Goodbye Stranger – ‘Miles Away’ Review

Are you a fan of relaxing indie-electro music? How about reverb-rich indie guitars that transport you to somewhere else? If you answered yes to either of these questions then take a listen to ‘Miles Away‘, the latest single by indie outfit Goodbye Stranger.

The track begins with mesmerising guitars that combine indie and dance, alongside an undeniably ethnic tinge that keeps you interested. And as soon as the rhythm section arrives, you find yourself carried by an infectious beat that blends with the guitars perfectly.

The vocals are almost as mesmerising. For the most part they are gentle and relaxed enough to float along the instrumentation and add to the feeling that the track is taking you somewhere miles away (pun intended). Though there is the occasional moment that the vocals fall short or begin to sound a bit clunky, for the most part the vocals are superb.

Don’t let my description deceive you though: this is by no means a track that relaxes you into a coma. The heart of the song is pure electro-pop, with the drum beat having an understated energy that makes you want to dance to the track. This is most evident in the bridge of the song where it nearly transforms into a club song before drawing to a close.

It’s a track of understated beauty, with an effective hook that strikes similarities with Crazy Town’s ‘Butterfly’ and a great mix of chillwave and electro-pop. It’s definitely worth checking out.
