FAKY gives us new reason to be obsessed with Japanese pop music.
If somebody were to describe a band to you as being a “Tokyo-based girl group”, chances are your mind would immediately jump to J-Pop and you’d respond accordingly. Not necessarily the best response, since J-Pop has become something of a divisive genre among Western audiences in recent years.
However, those assumptions would be entirely incorrect. FAKY, which is the aforementioned Tokyo-based outfit, does an incredible job at bringing the two cultures together through its music. New single Someday We’ll Know sums this up perfectly. In addition to the fact that the title indicates the spoken language is English (something most J-Pop artists steer clear of), the track oozes the same sense of attitude that you’d get from Little Mix or Charli XCX.
