Tove Styrke pays homage to alt-pop ally ahead of spring tour.

Tove Styrke is undeniably one of the strongest rising alt-pop stars of recent years. That’s why it made perfect sense for the artist to be announced as a touring counterpart for alt-pop idol Lorde in spring 2018.

Less obvious is that Styrke would honour this by covering Lorde’s recent track Liability, especially in such a way that both pays grand tribute and makes it her own. Stripping back some of the sounds to a more monophonic style and then weaving texture into the vocalwork, the offering stands apart from the grandiose nature of Lorde’s and someone brings even more heartfelt defeatism into it.
