New single blends electropop with funky rhythms and secrecy.

 

If there are two genres that everybody loves, it is electropop and funk. In fact, the two styles have been undoubtedly two of the most popular among chart-toppers and new artists alike in recent years. With that in mind, it’s hardly surprising that electropop genius Nicky Venus has upped his funk on latest single Off The Record.

Opening immediately with funky guitars, Venus wastes little time in differentiating this piece from anything he has dropped before. Yet it remains clear that Venus, at heart, is the same artist – he’s still nailing the 80s-inspired electro soundscapes and can still pack a subtle blow with rousing choruses. Just to make it a little bit more tempting, the lyrics tease the topic of secrecy – and if there’s one thing we love more than music, it’s a secret.
