There are worse people to save Christmas Day for than Country trio Red Sky July.
Country music and Christmas songs don’t fall together in the same sentence that often. Yet Red Sky July demonstrate that, actually, the two come together quite nicely. Save Christmas Day For Me might come across a little bit too typically country, but the sentiment is spot on.
I’m not entirely sure why, but there is a definitely melancholy wrapped up in the celebration of lights that Christmas is. There’s a lot of songs infused with sadness that, for better or worse, really capture the feeling of Christmas. I thought this was probably due to my British nature, but Americana trio Red Sky July confirm this as fact.
The outcome is a really sweet and tender song that is beautifully delivered on every front. The video is also low budget and captures that “Christmas home movie” feel perfectly. Plus the fact it’s sunny while they’re singing about the fabled snowfall of Christmas just really speaks true to real life (in Britain, where even the weather knows better than to be).
