Nothing But Thieves – ‘Tempt You (Evocatio)’ Review

Anybody who has ever doubted the vocal abilities of Nothing But Thieves frontman Conor Mason will be put well in their place on new track ‘Tempt You (Evocatio)’; a vocal-led masterpiece of hauntingly rich emotion.

‘Tempt You’ plays out a slow pace, with the centrepiece of the track being the emotively majestic vocalwork. The instrumentation is all simple, while Mason’s falsetto is hauntingly rich in emotion and feeling, and it’s got all the makings of a track that could spiral into complete anarchy at any moment. The song builds and builds slowly to it’s close, but manages to avoid spinning out of control into a maelstrom of musical madness.

It’s a well-constructed song that seductively slinks to a colossal build up that never runs the risk of drawing attention away from the driving vocal force of the track. A great follow-up from a band recently picked as one of iTunes’ ‘Ones To Watch’.
