Years & Years’ ‘Take Shelter’ is one of those celebratory electro-pop tracks that makes you feel inexplicably happy to be alive, even if the lyrics are not necessarily the most celebratory. It’s built of layers of catchy rhythms that slink along ceaselessly under a soulful vocal that emotively spreads through the mix.
The video itself is largely set in the woods and we’re almost certain that it stars Emily Browning (Babydoll from Sucker Punch), but we’re not 100%. The video is artistically directed to play on the lyricism of the song itself, with what appears to be a wilderness-inhabiting woman luring in and playing games with the band. One of the comments on the video itself proposes this theory, and we think it’s pretty spot on (very overthought, but spot on!).
