The Inkhearts – ‘Keeping Up’ Review

Frantic energetic indie-rock. It’s a dime-a-dozen in the world now, so it can be a bit of a task to sift through and find something worth listening to. But after a lot of listening, we can safely say that The Inkhearts are an act definitely worth listening to.

‘Keeping Up’ is their latest track and it’s a triumph in the indie circuit. Sounding pretty similar to ‘The Rat’ by The Walkmen, ‘Keeping Up’ is a no-frills and no-filler track that is explosive and straight to the point. Utilising an effective quiet-loud dynamic, the track’s chorus sounds big and could well be enough to carry the band quite far.

There’s also a lot to be said for the vocals of Lauren Shaw. So often do we hear female vocalists unnecessarily elongating notes to demonstrate the strength of their voices. Not here. Shaw’s voice is slightly understated, enough so that it makes you want to listen to more. From the chorus, it’s clear that she has a powerful voice. But it’s one that she knows how to control, and does so wonderfully.

It’s a radio-ready indie gem, and one that you should be listening to. Well, why aren’t you? You can listen to the track here.
