Glorious Indie-Pop to a T
Never has a band name been further from the truth than in the case of The Gloomies: their debut single ‘LSD’ is a fun-filled, groove-heavy indie track with no hint of doom or gloom.
In a way, ‘LSD’ plays out a bit like Miles Kane might have written it. It’s got an enjoyably simple and repetitive beat, and the song itself is so straightforward in its simplicity that it’s got indie-pop written all over it. And like a Miles Kane song, the beats are often punctuated with buzzing guitar tones that drive the track. Mix in the big chorus and The Gloomies have hit the ground running with ‘LSD’.
It’s utterly optimistic in its reverberated vocal delivery, and the bubbling instrumentation grounds it with a brooding sense of atmosphere. It’s a fun breezy single that, at just under three minutes, is in and out in just the right amount of time. Indie-pop to a T, but absolutely fantastic nonetheless.
