Manchester’s PEUR are something special to keep an eye on, at least if their single ‘Explosions’ is anything to go off.
‘Explosions’ is desert rock meets punk-pop in a ballsy mix of muscular riffs, catchy vocal hooks, explosive choruses and fuzzy guitar lines. It is a strange, but entirely welcomed, blend of Biffy Clyro (both their older stuff AND their newer stuff) and YouMeAtSix.
Amid the intimidatingly vicious guitars and brutal drums are some powerful vocal work from vocalist and guitarist Joe Lomax. In a track of this nature it’s a refreshing thing to hear an artist display some vocals that are powerful and clean, and not screamed or fuzzy.
But that doesn’t take any of the power away from this song – it’s still a brutally enjoyable listen from start to finish. With natural pop appeal and volatile riffs, PEUR’s ‘Explosions’ is pure explosions. Fans of Biffy Clyro might just find their new obsession.
